INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
The Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP) The Unified Protocol (UP) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for individuals diagnosed with anxiety disorders, depression and related disorders (which we refer to as emotional disorders). It was developed by David Barlow and a team of researchers at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CARD) at Boston University. The UP is a transdiagnostic treatment, which means that it can be applied to a range of different disorders and problems (e.g., panic attacks, social anxiety, obsessive thought/compulsions, depressed mood, impulsive behaviors). The overarching goal of the UP is to help patients learn news ways of responding to uncomfortable emotion that reduce symptoms across a patient’s range of problems. The UP combines elements such as mindfulness, cognitive therapy, and behavioral therapy.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders- 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men experience a mood or anxiety disorder during the pregnancy and postpartum period. IPT is a time-limited, focused, and evidence-based approach to treat mood disorders. The main goal of IPT is to improve the quality of a client’s interpersonal relationships and social functioning, it aims to help reduce overall distress. IPT provides strategies to resolve problems within four key areas:
- IPT addresses interpersonal deficits, including social isolation or involvement in unfulfilling relationships.
- IPT helps patients manage grief
- IPT can help with challenging life transitions/role changes like having a baby, employment changes, newly diagnosed medical illnesses
- IPT is recommended for dealing with interpersonal disputes that emerge from conflicting expectations between partners, family members, close friends, or coworkers.
COUPLES THERAPY
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps address the core questions we often ask ourselves about our most important relationship: Am I important to you? Will you be there for me when I need you most? Am I accepted and loved for who I am?
These questions are typically at the root of what couples fight about and when we fear that the answer to one of the above questions may be “no,” it can cause us to fight even harder to be seen and for our needs to be met or to shut down, withdraw, and give up on trying which then makes us feel even more isolated, hopeless and alone.
EFT is a highly researched, effective, and evidence-based treatment that focuses on the emotional bond between partners and is based on the premise that most relational problems arise from a disruption in this bond. It helps partners learn not only to be more open and trusting with each other, but also to reach out for one another more effectively.
PARENTING SUPPORT
Just as it takes a village to raise a child it also takes a village to raise a parent. Just as children struggle with big emotions, parents also experience intense emotions such as feelings of worry, disappointment, guilt, boredom, frustration, anger and rage. I believe every parent needs to feel well supported during this time and look forward to collaborating with you on your parenting journey.
